Fighting, fighting.... and a dog..

It’s Saturday, and most of you probably have lives so I’ll keep this short and sweet.

Libyan rebels have responded to the news that we have killed at least 15 of them in friendly fire yesterday. They have said it’s ‘regrettable’ but that mistakes happen and our attacks must continue regardless.

Friendly fire is a very cushy way of saying ‘Oops, we shot the good guys when we meant to shoot the bad guys.’

Rebels have apparently called for ceasefire today but Gaddafi apparently laughed and loaded some more guns.

A small earthquake has hit the small Grecian island of Crete. It was quite a strong shudder but very uneventful – and no one was hurt, so no story there.

Heavy fighting is still going in Africa's Ivory Coast, where Outtara (the President who got voted in) is apparently setting his soldiers on Gbago (the President who got voted out and refuses to leave). Many people are fleeing the area and it’s all said to be getting pretty nasty. You can read more about this situation in yesterday’s post.

More violence I’m afraid, and this time in Northern Ireland – where the first terrorist bomb in 2 years has killed a young policemen. It’s even more sad than usual because he had only just graduated and got his job. This sort of thing used to happen a lot in Northern Ireland; mostly in the form of car bombs (like this one), and mostly directed at people in power. I will explain this in more detail tomorrow.

Finally, because I think we are all due a news story that warms the heart, rather than deadens the soul – a **very** lucky dog has been rescued from the north coast of Japan, who has probably been floating in the sea since the Tsunami struck 3 weeks ago. Beating incredible odds and somehow surviving with no food for all that time, the dog was rescued by helicopter and is said to be recovering well. What a dog.

See you tomorrow.
